International students are generally not eligible for institutional aid, except for those with a Rensselaer Medal Scholarship or a Division I Athletic Scholarship. Canadian citizens applying for admission may also be considered for institutional aid.
There are limited merit scholarship opportunities available for undergraduate international students, up to $25,000 per year. All non-U.S. citizens/permanent residents must be prepared to assume the full cost of attendance for the duration of their studies.
To receive federal or state aid, international students must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Hold a valid alien registration card
- Have an I-94 document showing refugee, asylum granted, parole (for at least one year, unexpired), or Cuban-Haitian entrant status
- Possess a temporary resident card (I-688)
- Hold a conditional permanent resident card (I-551C)
