In some cases, Rensselaer students may be able to receive their institutional scholarships and/or grants while enrolling part-time. This is typically reserved for students who need fewer than 12 credits to complete their degree in their final term of enrollment or students who are attempting to make additional degree progress by enrolling over a summer term. The Office of Financial Aid will review all requests for part-time aid and determine eligibility accordingly. The Office of Financial Aid also reserves the right to deny a request for part-time institutional aid.
In order to be considered for part-time financial aid, students must obtain part-time approval from the Advising & Learning Assistance Center (ALAC). Once approval is obtained, the ALAC Office will notify the Office of Financial Aid so the aid adjustments can be made. During the term of approved part-time enrollment, funds will be prorated based on the number of credits you take. You must take at least six credits to be eligible for institutional aid.
The proration formula for Rensselaer aid is:
Number of Credits | Proportion | Percentage |
---|---|---|
6 | 6/12 | 50% |
7 | 7/12 | 58.3% |
8 | 8/12 | 66.7% |
9 | 9/12 | 75% |
10 | 10/12 | 83.3% |
11 | 11/12 | 91.7% |
